Driving Safer for Longer

Since 2008, Devon County Council have been delivering  Driving Safer for Longer workshops to various community groups throughout Devon which are aimed at keeping older drivers on the road safely for as long as possible. . Driving is one of the most risky activities most of us are likely to do in our lives, and yet once we pass a test at 17 many of us have no further training. Driving techniques have changed over the years – as has the Highway Code!

The workshops last from 1-2 hours, depending on the group requirement. They are free.  Numbers vary from 10 to 200!  Our trainers will come to a venue of your choice, and bring all required equipment.  It will be delivered by 1 or 2 members of our team and is informal, interactive, fun and very informative. We offer various modules according to the requirements of the group: topics covered include health, eyesight, medical conditions, Highway Code, the challenges facing drivers today, advice on aids to driving and some speed and hazard awareness. Participants will be given a free DVD relating to the above and a workbook.

Following on from attending the free workshop we encourage participants to take up a one hour driving health check with an approved driving instructor.

There is a charge for this, however we will offer a free one hour driving health check with one of our approved driving instructors to a member of the group in advance of the workshop.
